Often when we think of wool suits we picture a warm wool sweater that keeps you warm in the cold winter months. This is not the only use for wool, though. Wool is a good temperature regulator. This means that it will keep you warm when necessary, but it is also breathable. Wool suits can be worn comfortably year round!
Wool suits simply look better than other fabrics. They portray a look that is professional. The reason is that wool drapes better than most fabrics. Wool is also very durable. A nice wool suit can last a lifetime for someone that takes great care of it.
What is Virgin Wool?
Virgin wool is a silkier feel because it is the new wool, not used with any recycled wool. Most wool is virgin but during WWII when wool was scarce, it was recycled. The labeling of "Virgin" stuck over the years because at that time it was a luxury.
What do worsted, twill and gabardine mean?
Used for suiting, worsted is a tightly woven fabric made by using only long staple, combed wool or wool-blend yarns. The fabric has a hard, smooth surface. Gabardine is an example of a worsted fabric. It is tightly woven with a slight diagonal line. A twill weave is a more visible diagonal weave.
